Now we have looked at the common FDA approved drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction, let us look at the things you can apply to get the best out of your erectile dysfunction medication.

1.    Counseling

While the cause of erectile dysfunction in most people is not psychological, the condition usually comes with psychological stress. More often than not, it worsens the already unpleasant condition. Having sex therapy or counseling works for about 58 percent of the people who try them.

Everybody can be a victim of the mind-related causes of erectile dysfunction. Sometimes it’s the stress from work, life in general, a strain in the relationship, or even a particular let down during sex. Psychological causes of erectile dysfunction are more likely in younger men.

While it may not completely rid you of the condition, talking to a therapist can help you overcome erectile dysfunction related to these problems, and who knows it can be all you need. They can also help you if your erectile dysfunction is causing you stress, as this can make matters worse.

2.    Check with Your Doctor for Possible Drug Interactions

This applies to people who are already on a medication before or while taking drugs for erectile dysfunction. There is a possibility that the reason your ED drug does not meet your expectation could be because of an interaction with another medication you take alongside it.

If you are on a medication, it is important to have a doctor check whether this is the cause of your problem. If it is, then you might need to switch to a medication that will interact less with your ED drug, thus, giving it room to work.

Blood pressure medication, antidepressants, steroids (for treating asthma), and antihistamines are some of the most common drugs that interact with erectile dysfunction drugs.

3.    Is Your Medication the Best Fit for You?

The possibility of erectile dysfunction ruining your sex life causes many to jump into any medication they see without consulting their doctor. This could be the possible reason why your ED drug does not work as acclaimed.

Most ED drugs may work in a similar fashion, however, they are each made up of different chemicals. Because they have different primary ingredients, they are bound to work differently in your system.

Because of this, it is important to consult a doctor who would determine which drug is the best fit for your condition. We advise that you talk to your doctor about any health problems you have and other medications that you take.

4.    Be Patient with the Drug

Having patience with your ED drug is another tip to let it work. If you feel anxious about the drug not working under 5 minutes, you can actually worsen your chances of having the drug. In your state of anxiousness, you may trigger your brain to produce adrenaline, which you know would prevent you from having an erection.

The length of time ED drugs take to work differs, however, most of them take about 30 minutes to work, and the effects last for about 4 hours after you take the pill. If you use Cialis or Tadalafil, then you should take it at least 2 hours before you plan to have sex. The effects of this particular drug can last for up to 36 hours.

5.    Try Changing Some Habits

Changing some habits is another great way to let your erectile dysfunction drugs to work better. For example, your eating habits can interfere with how your ED drug works. Large meals, particularly meals with high-fat content, can slow down the absorption of many ED medications and prevent them from working properly.

If you cannot resist them, then taking meals with high-fat contents long before taking these drugs will help. Also, changing your diet can help you have better erections. It has been discovered that men whose diets contained plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, heart-healthy fats, and fish — with little red meat and processed grains — were less likely to experience erectile dysfunction.

Exercising is another great way of improving your chances of having erections. Men who exercise often (including Kegel exercises) had lesser chances of having erectile dysfunction. Asides treating erectile dysfunction, exercising often will help you feel better.

Finally, quitting alcohol and cigarette will help you a lot. Men who drink alcohol and cigarette are prone to having more severe and frequent symptoms of erection dysfunction. Also, erectile dysfunction is just one out of a number of health conditions caused by drinking and smoking.
